Drawn from the colours, materials and landscapes of the islands, SALT Studio gathers painting, beading and palm weaving into intimate creative sessions, each led by a Vincentian artist or maker.
Set in gardens, studios and verandas chosen for the practice at hand, each session centres on a single craft, an afternoon unfolding through paint and canvas, beads assembled one by one, or palm leaves gradually worked into form.
What leaves with you is something made here, and made by you.
The Vision
An island seen through its makers.
Across Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, colour and material announce themselves everywhere: the dense green of the interior, the brilliant water beyond it, palms moving along the coast, and the painted houses, boats and everyday objects that carry colour through the landscape.
SALT Studio translates that visual world into a small collection of creative encounters, pairing guests with Vincentian artists and makers whose practice offers another way of seeing the islands.
A landscape becomes a painting. A handful of beads becomes a piece of jewellery. A palm leaf becomes something entirely new, in the hands of somebody who knows how to work with it.

The Encounter

Begin with the maker.
Hosted by a Vincentian artist or maker, each Studio session begins with an introduction to the practice, its materials and the approach of the person leading it.
The setting is part of the experience: painting within sight of the sea, beading around a shaded table, or weaving palm in a garden where the material feels close at hand.
Put your hands to work.
With guidance throughout, guests create something of their own, following the maker's technique while leaving room for their own interpretation.
Painting may take its subject from the surrounding landscape, botanical forms or island life. Beading develops gradually into a bracelet, necklace or small personal piece. Palm is folded and woven into simple objects: bookmarks, coasters, placemats.
The pleasure lies as much in the process as the finished piece.

At the end of the session, the finished work belongs to the person who made it, carrying the colours, materials and memory of the place it was made.
A painting made overlooking the Grenadines, a piece of jewellery assembled bead by bead, or a palm object woven by hand, becomes a more personal record of Saint Vincent than anything chosen from a shelf.

Artists and makers lead their own craft. SALT shapes the setting around them, from location and materials to drinks, light refreshments and the details that let several creative hours pass easily.
Private sessions and small groups preserve the personal nature of the encounter, each offered according to artist and maker availability.
